Do you ever feel guilty for asking God for certain blessings or for help in times of trouble? Sometimes we think that our struggles aren't big enough for God to worry about. After all, there are so many people much worse off than ourselves. Others may judge your petitions as too lofty, selfish, or unimportant. How dare we ask the Creator for more when He has already given all? Society then tells us that we can handle any problem we face, if only we are strong enough.
These are all falsehoods told by the father of lies! Satan wants you to feel alone and afraid! Rather, our Lord tells us through the apostle Paul:
So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help - Hebrews 4:16
Think about it. You comfort your children when they're sick, cook healthy meals for your spouse, and care for parents in their time of need. You would do anything for those people if they needed your help, regardless of how much you've already done. How much more so will our Heavenly Father do for us?
Now, before you start praying for a bajillion dollars and expecting to receive it tomorrow, consider this scripture passage, again from St. Paul:
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
Ask the Lord your petitions, and He will grant you peace beyond your circumstance. He may not necessarily grant your request, but you can certainly guarantee His peace will be with you, which is sufficient for all your needs.
