The past couple of weeks have been like a whirlwind! Being a teacher, August is always packed full of sorting and organizing, planning and purging, and oh-so-much stress. This year has been no exception, but after eight years in the school system, I do feel a little more prepared.
Plus, I read this magnificent blog post. If you are a teacher, know a teacher, or have ever met a teacher - that would be EVERYONE - then please take a moment to read this post. It perfectly describes Christian educators' call to mission!
This post really struck me. The blogger is right; the classroom is a unique mission field. We, teachers, are missionaries in a very different, if not difficult, position. The Lord calls us to teach our students to be best of our abilities and to help mold them into kind, respectful citizens of the world, without ever speaking His Name. The challenge is great, but the reward is GREATER.

When I become overwhelmed by all that is expected of me, the temptation is to mourn my situation. I dread the challenge before me, lamenting the loss of previous, more mature students. I complain that the bureaucracy and politics are not worth the stress. I pray for the speedy end of the year or hope for someone else to take over.
My goal and my prayer this year is to keep my mission in mind, to love and teach my students where they are to the glory of the One who sent me. Rather than waiting or hoping for something better to happen, I want to expect that God will work through me, love them through me.
I am #grateful that God teaches and loves me where I am, and I am #grateful for all of the amazing teachers who have made positive impacts in my life and given me an example to follow!
Happy school year, everyone!
